I see you lying next to me, with words I thought I'd never speak, awake and unafraid, asleep or dead

John Green's Looking For Alaska is being turned into a movie (to be released in 2013, so don't get all excited yet) and they thought about renaming into Famous Last Words. I think this would've been the perfect title... also for the book. I loved the whole famous last words hobby Miles had going on.

Another proof of ugly German book covers

I just realized that this is the German adult book cover for Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book:

It's stupid enough to not fully translate the title (alright, MAYBE "Das Friedhofsbuch" would have sounded a little too depressing) but to call this an actual book cover and to expect people to buy it... wow, seriously, what is wrong with the German book industry?

Definitely no crescendo

You're one of those Hush Hush cover lovers? I am. I'm not obsessed over it (or the book) but I think the cover is pretty damn eye-watering:

Hush, Hush

So now it's finally time for the cover of book 2 (entitled Crescendo, hence the pun in the headline) to be revealed. I'll let you make your own opinion first:

Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2)

So? What do you think? Not as cool, right? At least that's what I think. On it's own Crescendo might not look bad at all but compared to its companion it's a decrescendo (urm, why, yes, those piano lessons were useful after all!). I think I really like the photo itself but the whole black/white/red and the font just makes it look kind of ... cheap? The thunder combined with the title is neat though (with regards to content, not optically).

The Short Second Life of Bree who?

In case you're living in a cozy hole behind the moon, I'm here to provide you with the latest news from the Twilight-universe.
Actually Sabrina first found out about this and told me that Stephenie Meyer will release a new book this year. Mrs. Meyer herself calls it a novella and it is told from the view point of Bree Tanner. Doesn't ring a bell? Too bad, because you're supposed to know her! Apparently she's one of the new born vampires that Victoria (Bella's nemesis, remember?) raises in Eclipse in order to attack/kill Bella and the rest.
What surprised me most is that Stephenie gives this book away for free. Guess she learned her lesson from the Midnight Sun disaster :P
But of course you can also buy the book to put on your shelf. The cover looks rather pretty and very Twilightish:

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

The content of "The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner" seems to deal with the following events, as put by Stephenie Meyer herself:

I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.

Read more on Stephenie's website.
Doesn't really sound all that interesting to me, to be honest. I think my Twilight-phase came to an end a while ago. Are any of you getting excited?

German Shiver release

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater is a book I really enjoyed last year. Most of you probably know what the cover looks like:

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)

or in different colours in the UK:

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)

In fall the book is said to be published in Germany. It will go by the great title "Nach dem Sommer" (= After the summer). Seriously? THAT SOUNDS PLAIN STUPID! But at least it makes sense content-wise.
The cover is not final yet but you can vote for your favourite here. That's what they look like:

Personally I like the one on the left much better but they're still no comparision to the English covers. What do you think?

Remake a book cover contest

I decided to participate in Princess Bookie's "remake a book cover contest". There were a bunch of YA book covers to choose from and I went for Cinderella Society by Kay Cassidy.

The artwork is taken from the incredibly talented doven. Due to time issues I didn't have time to ask for permission to use her image. I'm sorry and I didn't mean to offend you!

Do the names Nick, Norah, Naomi and Ely ring a bell?

I really should be doing some more exam preparation (eg. learning how to handle InDesign) but I just found out that the cover and the title of David Levithan and Rachel Cohn's new book (yes, another collaboration) has been released and I feel all giddy and excited and I can't believe it's still 8 months til October T______T

I think it looks gorgeous.
